Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) has emerged as an innovative and effective non-surgical solution to rejuvenate tear troughs, skin quality, and hair growth. PRP is described as a revolutionary treatments that harness the body’s natural healing abilities. Sounds like magic!

A quick bio lesson for you. Our blood is made up of four key components: red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. Each player has a distinct role, but they generally work together as a team.

In PRP treatments a small amount of the patient’s blood is drawn and it’s put into a super cool machine that spins super fast and separates the platelets and plasma from the other good stuff. The biological material is collected and reintroduced to the targeted area–in this case the tear troughs.

The platelets contain growth factors that stimulate collagen production → promoting tissue repair and regeneration. When platelets are extracted, they have a concentrated healing effect. It’s basically sorcery.

The Process

  • 01. Draw Blood

The amount of blood drawn is similar to what is required for a basic lab test

  • 02. Spin

Your blood is placed into a centrifuge where it is spun at a very rapid rate to separate the platelets from the other components of the blood

  • 03. PRP Ready

The Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is activated to release growth factors and other beneficial proteins

PRP with SkinPen Microneedling

Heard of the “Vampire Facial”? PRP is the “secret sauce” to the treatment—not the red blood cells. Microneedling can be done with our standard SkinPen hyaluronic acid gel, or in the case of the “vampire facial,” with platelet-rich plasma. PRP contains a concentrated amount of your platelets that are chock-full of growth factors—they are responsible for healing wounds and stimulating collagen

The addition of PRP to SkinPen Microneedling enhances the results, speeds up the healing process, and helps boost cellular renewal

  • Numbing cream will be applied on the treatment area to ease the discomfort associated with Microneedling. While your face is being numbed, that is when your blood will be drawn and spun in the centrifuge

The blood is separated into 3 layers which leaves the PRP available for use during the Microneedling process. PRP contains proteins and several growth factors that regulate and activate cell migration and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin

Immediately post treatment, instructions from your provider will be given for the first few days following your treatment to ensure best results

  • By using Microneedling as the supplemental delivery method for the PRP, the two treatments work synergistically which leads to more rapid collagen production. Results can vary based on a number of factors including needle penetration, overall skin health, number of passes and treatments received

Similarly to the stand alone Microneedling treatment, patients will be able to note a youthful radiance and tightening of their skin directly following a single treatment but it is recommended to receive 3-6 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart to maintain collagen production and to optimize their skin rejuvenation

PRP Undereye Treatment

Tear troughs are the depressions that form between the lower eyelid and the upper part of the cheek. These hollows can be caused by various factors, including age, genetics, and lifestyle. As we age, we lose volume in our skin. This is especially noticeable in our faces. The fat pads throughout our visage–buccal fat, under eye fat–diminishes over time resulting in a sunken appearance and the formation of dark circles.

Eyes are a particularly complex area to work with, given their sensitivity and critical roles in our bodies. It’s important to be mindful of any foreign substances that may be introduced to the area around the eyes because the skin tends to be thin and delicate in this region

  • Dermal Fillers Don’t Correct Every Undereye Problem

Dermal fillers certainly work to fill in those hollows under the eyes, which in turn smooths out the skin and corrects wrinkles and some discoloration. However, one common skin issue is crepey skin. When your under-eye area looks slightly like wrinkled crepe paper, it usually indicates that the skin is really thin and has lost a lot of volume. In this instance, your skin needs a collagen boost, which not all dermal fillers can provide.

So why is PRP better for tear troughs than dermal fillers? Aside from the fact that PRP addresses issues with pigmentation and texture in addition to adding volume to the area under the eyes through collagen production, there are a few more reasons.

PRP Ends Up Looking More Natural

Fillers plump up the area immediately after treatment, so the change is drastic and noticeable. They also sometimes create a too-puffy appearance in some patients. PRP, however, gradually improves the undereye area by increasing collagen production, making your youthful transformation look less like you’ve had “work” done.

  • PRP treatments for tear troughs are a remarkable addition to the cosmetic industry. These non-surgical, natural methods offer a safe and effective solution to rejuvenate the under-eye area reducing the appearance of dark circles, hollows, and fine lines.

As the demand for tweakments, or minor enhancements, continues to rise, PRP are poised to become an integral part of the journey towards achieving a more youthful and refreshed appearance. They have the added benefit of avoiding the risks and lengthy downtime associated with surgery, and some of the concerns associated with using external fillers.

As always, when considering PRP for tear trough treatment, it’s essential to work with a qualified and experienced practitioner. This is a sensitive area and you don’t want to take unnecessary risks. Remember that your eyes are unique and beautiful, and enhancing their allure with PRP can be a transformative and confidence-boosting experience.

  • Our injectors usually recommend starting with 3 PRP undereye sessions, approximately one month apart.

After the initial round of 3 treatments, you’ll only need followup treatments once every 12-18 months!

Am I a good candidate for PRP?

PRP treatment involves using the patient’s own blood as a resource to isolate the platelets with a centrifuge. Because the blood is directly from the patient, the risks of the body rejecting the plasma or having an allergic reaction are minimal

Your health determines whether a PRP is right for you. It may not be recommended if you have medical conditions that could worsen with platelet-rich plasma, such as an active infection. Patients with some blood and bleeding disorders or anemia are also advised to stay away from this add on treatment
